It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
